Teneil Whiskeyjack is a Plains Cree woman from Saddle Lake Cree Nation, a multidisciplinary artist, speaker, and Indigenous advocate whose work intricately weaves storytelling, culture, and wellness into powerful acts of resilience and healing. Storytelling has always been central to her life. She began acting at the age of eight and went on to work extensively in film and television, earning the Outstanding New Performance by an Actress in Film from First Americans in the Arts for her breakout role in Dreamkeeper. Her screen work includes the acclaimed television series Tribal, Renegadepress.com, and the film Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, further establishing her presence as a powerful Indigenous voice in film and television.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Drama from Concordia University of Edmonton and is a proud recipient of the Esquao Award for the Arts, which honors Indigenous women leaders and advocates making transformative contributions in their communities. Her leadership as a speaker has been recognized on national stages, including her keynote “The Resurgence of Indigenous Women’s Medicine,” where she uplifted the power of Indigenous women’s voices and medicines.
As a theatre artist, Teneil made her playwright debut with her play Ayita, which headlined the 10th Anniversary of the SkirtsAfire Festival. She has since toured internationally with the hit musical Bear Grease, a high-energy Indigenous parody of the classic film Grease. She was also chosen as one of the artists for the first-ever cross-cultural artistic residency in Chile, South America, through the Pemmican Collective and Punctuate Theatre.
Beyond the stage, Teneil is an intuitive energy and body practitioner as well as a dramaturg, bringing holistic approaches to both artistic creation and personal wellness. She also curates and produces land-based artistic offerings, including Pahkisimon with the *Jasper Dark Sky Festival. Her creative vision increasingly explores movement as storytelling, honoring the way stories live in the body as medicine for healing, liberation, and transformation.
Through every role—multidisciplinary artist, speaker, facilitator, and Indigenous advocate—Teneil leads with spirit, strength, and vision. Her work amplifies Indigenous women’s voices, empowers communities, and creates pathways of connection, wellness, and cultural resurgence.
